The session fee will reduce to £6 when we can use the school facilities again and no longer need to hire portable toilets

Merchant Taylors

ActiveTrainingWorld are excited to announce the return of Open Water Swimming Sessions at Merchant Taylors School.

Various Sessions will be held each week:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday Evenings. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TIMINGS OF THESE EVENING SESSIONS WILL CHANGE FROM W/C 15 JUNE DUE TO SCHOOL TIMETABLES
And Saturday and Sunday mornings.

These open water swimming sessions are for individuals or family members only. You are not allowed to swim with a friend or a club mate unless they live in the same house as you. We expect everyone attending these sessions to be a competent and confident open water swimmer. If you would like to be involved but are not an experienced open water swimmer then this is an excellent opportunity to book one of our coaching sessions with Aloha Tri! Please go to the booking site here

The sessions are now open to under 16's who must also be confident open water swimmers. Under 16's will only be allowed to complete the 400m lap. Under 14's must be accompanied at all times in the water by an adult from the same household.

Online entries: Pay by major credit/debit cards

icon Course & Swim Safety Information

There are 2 swimming loops in the stunning fresh water lake. One measures 750m and the other is shorter at 400m.

Entering the lake

A 2m queuing system will be operational to enter the lake. Before entering the lake you need to give your name to the ATW staff member who will have a list of all pre-paid swimmers. Remember there is no payment allowed on the day and you will be turned away if you haven’t pre booked.

Swim Safety

When in the water we require everyone to swim individually in their own space or with someone that you share a house with. Please respect the swimmers around you and find your own space. If you get into trouble in the water then lie on your back with one arm in the air and our water safety team will be on hand to help. If you are not a confident and competent swimmer then you should not be attending these sessions.

We will have a full water safety crew on kayaks to support you in the water and an ATW staff member will be at the water edge to make sure everyone knows the swim rules and enters and exits the water safely.

Swim England and British Triathlon have drawn up some "Key Safety Advice" guidelines on Open Water Swimming. We encourage you to read these before entering.

Important Open Water Swimming Information

Non Swimmers
We prefer you to attend this session alone (unless you are Under 16 as at 31/12/2020), but there is a maximum of one non-swimmer allowed per household. Any non-swimmers can wait in the queue with you, but cannot stay in or near the swim entrance/exit/kit drop area while you swim. This is essential to enable us to maintain safe social-distancing.

Arriving and Changing

Toilets
Portable toilets will be available to use with a hand sanitising station outside of the cubicle and inside the cubicle. Everyone must use the hand sanitiser before entering the cubicle, use the hand sanitiser inside the cubicle and then use the hand sanitiser outside the cubicle again.

Changing
We will not be providing a changing area, therefore please come changed and ready to swim.

Baggage
A simple drop off and pick up baggage area will be available at the edge of the lake. This area is not to be treated like a transition or changing area. You can only quickly drop off a bag here and then collect the bag after the swim. This area will be contained but ATW accept no responsibility for your possessions. It would be preferable if you left all valuables at home or in your vehicle.

Exiting the lake

When you exit the lake you will be able to pick up your bag and then leave the baggage area immediately. From there we expect you to get changed in the designated area or make your way back to your vehicle to get changed and leave immediately.

Wetsuit hire, catering and shop purchases
All of these will not be available whilst the strict social distancing rules are in place. Later in the year we may be able to introduce this but for now we expect all swimmers to arrive ready to swim and have everything they need with them.

Refund Protect
You will be prompted to accept or decline the option for Refund Protect on checkout. This session is not covered by Refund Protect so please select "NO"
